Trevor Buckland worked for Old Mutual for 16 years within their Life and their Employee Benefits divisions. Over that period he held a variety of positions; including life agent, legal advisor to clients and intermediaries, advanced training specialist, marketing manager and executive and corporate consultant.
In 1994 he established a private consultancy practice, Buckland, Jane and Associates, which renders fee-based financial counselling services to a variety of clients.
Services include planning and management of financial and tax affairs for individuals, trusts and small businesses.
Buckland, Jane are also a member of the Johannesburg School of Finance. The school designs and provides financial skills and trustee training and similar programmes for corporate clients and retirement funds.
Trevor has contributed to and has assisted in editing numerous financial planning publications. He has frequently spoken at seminars and conferences on related topics.
He has been an independent retirement fund trustee to a number of funds since the year 2000, and also acts as administrative trustee to many inter vivos and testamentary trusts.
He was an inaugural Fellow of the Institute of Life and Pensions Advisors (renamed the Financial Planning Institute) and served for many years on their local committee. He is consequently a Certified Financial Planner (CFP).
He was admitted as an Associate of the Health Insurance Association of America (HIA) in 1995.
He holds a BA degree (with Political Philosophy) and an LLB degree from Stellenbosch University.
His poetry has been published in informal anthologies locally and abroad. He has a keen interest in amateur astronomy and African wildlife and has been involved in the N.E. Tuli Block, Botswana, for more than 20 years.
He lives in Johannesburg and has served on the Parktown and Westcliff Heritage joint neighbourhood planning committee for a number of years.
He is married and has two daughters.
